Phylo is a speculative interaction design project, which explores the communication of a future IoT household. In a household where people and objects are all connected to one another, how can this continuous connectedness enrich the user’s subconscious experience rather than exhaust it? How would a household change if we could always feel where our loved ones are?

Phylo is the result of design research into the nonverbal communication habits within a household and draws inspiration from birds who can always feel where the North is. Through the subconscious, peripheral senses, the members of the househol can always sense where their loved one’s are through vibrations on a waistbelt. This way, even when they are far from home, they remain grounded because they just ‘feel’ where home is. And if someone leaves, those who miss them can still feel their presence.
